Working with Foundations

This 1-day workshop is for leaders and managers of community prevention initiatives who have had little or no experience in fundraising. The workshop explores America's philanthropic sector and the role of foundations in substance abuse prevention. Participants learn about trends in foundation funding.

The objectives are:

(1) describe how foundations have chosen to support prevention activities;

(2) locate information on national and local foundations;

(3) identify opportunities for working with foundations as potential partners in prevention;

(4) identify strategies to approach foundations for support of community-based prevention programs; and

(5) apply guidelines for developing, organizing, and writing grant proposals.
