This workshop is an opportunity for the Partnerships to establish or enhance their relationship with their state prevention system. Each state National Prevention Network (NPN) representative that has a partnership from their state at the Institute is invited to meet with their partnership
members during this time frame. They are encouraged to discuss how partnerships can work with the state prevention system and other prevention organizations within their communities. In addition, NPN representatives are encouraged to bring information about services and resources that might be available for partnerships within the state to the meeting. Finally, partnerships are encouraged to explore opportunities for supporting their state's prevention efforts.
This session provides information on how to link state resources to Sessions 1D and 1E on developing a community planning system and can provide input into the partnership action plan developed in Unit 5B. It also can be useful for identifying state resources, some of which may be located or have a regional site in the partnership's community, in relation to the activities in Unit 4A: Community Mobilization and Unit 4E: Assessing the Community beyond the Partnership.
Same as team time if team room is available. If using the general session room, 6-8 chairs can be arranged around a table for each state, with a newsprint stand and markers available for each table (groups should be in corners of the large room to minimize distractions among the groups).
If a state has brought or requested special audio-visual equipment, arrangements need to be made to provide enough separation from other groups to avoid noise problems.
Additional room setup requests may be provided by the State NPN Representative.
It is important for both the Conference Coordinator and Training Coordinator to have a phone conversation with the State NPN Representative prior to the Institute (or have a three-way conference call). TSupp includes a check-list of information to be covered.
If the State NPN Representative has not attended the entire Institute, the Training Coordinator can introduce them to the whole group at the first general session after she/he arrives.
NOTE: The following agenda is prepared to gove State NPN Representatives a list of suggested topics based on past experience with partnerships. Since each state is unique and partnerships vary on their previous experience with the State's prevention system, NPN Representatives are encouraged to modify outline as desired.
