Day and Time

Day 3, Wednesday, 1:30 p.m.-2:45 p.m. (1.25 hours)

Purpose

This session is intended to help participants focus on the need for a systematic approach to a community-wide planning system that is culturally competent and inclusive of the unique cultural diversity within each partnership's community.

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  1. Complete the transition from the personal issues that arose during Unit 3A (Enhancing Cultural Consciousness) to the organizational issues related to creating inclusive planning systems for their partnerships.

  2. Explore the implications of developing a culturally competent system for one segment of the community.

Linkages with Preceding and Following Sessions

This session builds on the previously discussed materials on planning, prevention approaches, and inclusiveness. During the team time that preceded this session, team members should have moved beyond their personal reactions to cultural consciousness issues to looking at how these issues affect their partnership. Understanding the need for an inclusive and systematic process leads into tomorrow's sessions, which will explore how to mobilize the community and involve it in project needs assessment and planning.
