The purpose of this unit is to allow team members to share what they learned at their concurrent workshop with the other team members. This set of workshops focuses on evaluating the internal dynamics of the organization and providing resources for building and sustaining the partnership. Team members get a chance to speak to the rest of their team and to deepen their understanding of the importance of developing a systematic approach to organizational development. The unit provides an opportunity for participants to integrate what they have learned in the concurrent workshops into their own partnership team.
Share ideas, tools, and concepts from various workshops with others on the team.
Develop their ideas about how they, as individuals and as members of the team, might use the ideas presented in the workshops with their partnerships back home.
The theme of Day 2's activities is the internal dynamics of the partnership. The preceding session contained a number of workshops that presented ideas and suggested resources on how partnerships can increase their organizational effectiveness by paying attention to their internal dynamics,-that is, paying attention to how they work together. This session allows participants to share information with others on their team and to focus on how this new information can be adapted to their partnership's needs. It also helps the participants to understand that many internal organizational dynamics can affect the successful operation of the partnership. This increased awareness will help participants to see the importance of Unit 2E, which concerns assessing internal organizational dynamics.
Ask participants to take 7 minutes to make a few notes on the handout about the workshop they attended for use in telling the rest of the team about it. If there is time, they may want to write notes on newsprint.
A. Remind the team that their "scribe," the person responsible for making entries to the Team Diary, may want to jot down notes about each of the workshop tools or processes as it is presented.
B. If more than one team member attended a concurrent workshop, have all those who went to one workshop huddle to agree on who among them will tell the rest of the team about their workshop. They will fill out only one workshop information sheet.
C. Ask for a volunteer to take 5 minutes to tell the others about the concepts, processes, or tools addressed in the workshop he/she attended. HO-1 should be used as a basis for this presentation.
D. Repeat the process with another volunteer or go around the team until information about all of the workshops has been presented.
Team Discussion
What is the relevance of workshop concepts, processes, and tools for our partnership? How will we use them with our home organization and our partnership?
How do these concepts, processes, and tools help or hinder how we involve the various cultural groups now within our home organizations and our partnerships? Will use of these things help us involve new cultural groups in our work?
Which of these concepts, processes, and tools, alone or in combination, is likely to give our partnership the most useful understanding of how we conduct our planning work? Which will contribute most to how we develop community-oriented ATOD abuse planning processes?
Are there other concepts, processes, and tools, or adaptations of those presented, that would be more useful for our partnership? Who knows them, and how will tools be adapted?
B. Close by noting that these workshops stress how important it is to continually assess and improve how partnerships work together.
