Mind-full of Media: Taking It In, Sorting It Out, Giving It Back

This 2-day workshop is for youth ages 15 to 17 involved in community prevention efforts. This workshop helps participants see through the hype and distortion in media messages and shows how to change mass media coverage of community events so that positive images of youth are presented and healthy behaviors are promoted.

The objectives are: (1) understand how news, entertainment, and ads all control how you view the world; (2) develop media strategies that address the individual, societal, and community aspects of substance abuse prevention; (3) learn to work together with media organizations to bring about positive change in your community; and (4) demonstrate at least two practical skills necessary to get your message/story in the media.
