Invest in Prevention: Prevention Works! in Health Care Delivery Systems

This course helps people working in health care delivery systems (such as hosptials, HMOs, and community mental health centers) to recognize the special role they can play in preventing substance abuse. It also helps them to promote prevention in their systems.

The objectives are:

  1. Identify disease prevention strategies that can be adapted to substance abuse prevention.
  2. Understand a working definition of prevention by demonstrating the place of prevention in health care delivery systems.
  3. Describe the concpet of "Prevention Practice Guidelines."
  4. Apply a method for championing prevention by identifying a coworker and developing a strategy for interacting more effectively with that person.
  5. Communicate effectively about the role of prevention in health care delivery systems.
  6. Develop action-oriented implementation and evaluation plans to incorporate prevention into normal practice in your organization.
